In 2017 Thompson Longhorn was requested to design new cattle yards on a greenfields site for backgrounding cattle destined for L&G Meats.

Plans included a fully pneumatic crowding yard, a curved Vee lane incorporating a double-deck dual alley load-out facility, Monarch MK2 crush, a fully automated 5-way draft, with the core centre covered by a shade structure.  The pneumatic auto-draft gates are operated by the radio frequency (RF) controller with input from the RFID reader, scale reader and weight parameters set into the system, to decide which gates to open as each animal is processed.  If you haven’t already done so, I suggest you read the Autumn 2018 Newsletter article on auto drafting by Kelly Keong, to get a better understanding of the meaning of auto-drafting.
