Dornoch

The cattle yards at Dornoch were upgraded from older wooden yards from the previous generation who was the property owner. As the next generation of property operators came into the day to day running of the property they identified that some infrastructure had to be upgraded to enable them to safely and efficiently handle cattle in the yards.

Typically, the yards are operated by one person, so optimum stock-flow within the small space was an important factor to achieve when designing the yards.  A pre-existing medium-size shade roof over the core centre equipment provides relief from the weather.  The core centre includes a 270°crowd with catwalk, curved race with half sheeting on the operating side, a Monarch MK2 restrainer and 3-way auto-drafting facility operated by Tru-Test weighing equipment, to enable stock to be drafted into pre-set weight ranges with minimal labour units.
